So I was watching the synchronized diving competition with some friends last night and couldn't come up with a suitable answer for why the divers jump under a shower after each dive. Were there especially harsh chemicals in the pool? Health regulations? I had no answer.
Fortunately, The Explainer at Slate.com was way ahead of me:
"Diving venues are air conditioned and can feel especially cold after a dip in the pool. Competitors shower in warm water to keep their muscles loose and then often retire to a hot tub. They towel off shortly before the next dive so that their hands don't slip during tucks or other maneuvers."So, yeah. Now you know. Not really as exciting as I'd hoped.
